Be Mine, Valentine

Hi there and welcome back!  Tonight I have a couple fun cards to share that I made for my "tween" and teen grandchildren.  They are kind of at the age where they would appreciate Valentines from "Meima" that are humorous rather than "cute" so I pulled out my Crazy Bird stamp set by Tim Holtz and went about making a couple of cards.

This fun bird was stamped on Strathmore water color paper, then colored with Zig Markers and a water pen.  It took a few tries as I'm still working on improving my blending technique with these markers.  Since I wanted a couple of hearts to add to the background, I grabbed a Stampin' Up! Journaling pen with permanent black ink and hand drew a couple of wonky hearts on a scrap of water color paper, then colored and fussy cut them as well.

To create the background, I took a panel of watercolor paper, spread water in sections then used the yellow and purple markers to dab color which I spread with a paintbrush.  After drying with my heat tool I splattered water drops on it, then blotted them up and again dried the panel.  Next I mixed a bit of white gouache on an acrylic block, added a bit of water that I mixed with my paint brush, then splattered it over the panel.  It really didn't show up as well as I hoped probably because the colors were too light, but you can see it up close.  After all was dry, the bird and hearts were adhered.

The sentiment was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black pigment ink then heat embossed with Stampendous Cristal embossing power, which is clear with glitter as you can see in the photo above.

The second card was made much in the same way as the first, although I drew the hearts on the dried watercolor panel.  I love these birds!

I'm joining the Stamp Ink Paper challenge this week, where the theme is Love.  I've added a link below so be sure to use it to visit the blog and enjoy all the beautiful inspiration!

Thanks for visiting!
