Eclectic Thank You for the SCS Color Challenge Design Team

Hi there again!  Tonight's post is for my final turn as a guest member of the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge Design Team.  It has been so fun working with the wonderful members on the CC design team and a joy to create with all the lovely colors each week.

This week's colors use 2 of the new Stampin' Up! 2015-2017 In Colors - Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush, plus Hello Honey, which is one of the current 2014-2016 In Colors.

The new In Colors are very bright, so I wanted to keep my card fairly CAS with plenty of white space.  I used SC545 as the basis for my layout, although I added an element with the sentiment on the bottom right.

I started with the sun from Kinda Eclectic, stamped in Hello Honey, then topped it with a 3 layer butterfly.  The bottom and top layers are Vellum, with a layer of Watermelon Wonder in between.  I was actually going to just use one layer of Vellum, but the first butterfly I cut tore as I was trying to remove it from one of the Butterfly framelits.  Darn!  So I cut a second one to use on top but figured the tear would not be visible under the card stock layer, so it went on the bottom.  I like the effect!

The leaves were stamped in Cucumber Crush, cut out with my paper snips. the layered under the sentiment.  A few splatters on each side of the main image and some sequins, and my card was done!

Thanks for taking time to visit today and I would love to hear from you if you have a moment to leave a comment!  Please use the links above and come join us for the Color Challenge or play along with the Sketch Challenge (even though it is from nearly 2 weeks ago, there is no deadline, so you can upload your card any time).  Have a great week!!

Hugs,

Stef

Pheasant Birthday

Hello again!  I hope you've had a good weekend, and if you're in the areas of the country that are having severe weather, I hope you and your family are staying safe.

This afternoon I found time to make a birthday card for our a friend's upcoming birthday.  The sketch at Pals Paper Arts provided the perfect design.

Our friend is quite the outdoors enthusiast, so I thought the pheasant from Walk in the Wild would be a good image for his card. I stamped the image twice, once for the circle and one to water colored and fussy cut so the bird's tail would extend beyond the edge of the circle.

I tried to get as close as possible to the coloring of a pheasant's feathers.  Using an Aqua Painter, the body was colored with a combination of Delightful Dijon, Cajun Craze and Crumb Cake, the head with Lost Lagoon and Watermelon Wonder. Pheasants have yellow eyes and slightly lighter colored yellow beaks, so I used Dijon for the eye and So Saffron for the beak.
,

Everything was a bit distressed and sponged with Crumb Cake, including the brick embossing to give it a bit more of a realistic look.  The brads are from the retired Vintage Trinkets.

As always your visit and comments are so appreciated!  Be sure to use the link above to visit PPA for fantastic inspiration and to join in.

I'll be back tomorrow night with my final card as a guest design team member for the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge, so be sure to drop by!

Hugs,

Stef

Garden Wreath

Hello again!  I found time this week to make a card for this week's challenge at Freshly Made Sketches.

Rather than use a star, I opted to use the wreath from Circle of Spring.  I stamped and colored it with a blender pen and then, because I forgot to order the matching framelit when I ordered the stamp set (soon to be remedied!), the wreath was hand cut with my paper snips.

The wreath was popped up on a panel of Whisper White that I scored with my long neglected Simply Scored Diagonal Plate.  The sentiment was cut with a Scallop Circle punch and adhered to the center of the wreath.  A bit of ribbon and rhinestones were the finishing touches.

As always, your visit and comments are so appreciated!  Please be sure to use the link above to see lots of inspiration and join the challenge too!  Have a great weekend!

Hugs,

Stef

A Red Night on the Marina

Hello again!  The Color Challenge design team at Splitcoaststampers has had some terrific colors to work with so far in June, and this week is no exception.  Maura has chosen Real Red, Night of Navy and Marina Mist, particularly fantastic for an Independence Day card or a masculine themed card.  I chose to make a masculine birthday card to add to my stash for the several that are upcoming in our family in the next 3 months.

I used the sketch from Mojo Monday #402 (last Monday) for my card layout.

These colors are so perfect for a maritime style card, so I dusted off my long neglected Open Sea stamp set and went about playing around with the challenge colors.

I started by stamping the Marina Mist panel with a background stamp inked with Versamark, then added a couple images from the Open Sea set that were inked up with Marina Mist, then stamped off once before applying to the card stock.  After stamping the globe, ship and the compass dial pointer, they were all hand cut with my paper snips.

I played around with different placements and ended up with this mix.  In trying to layer the different circle sizes, I had to mix both framelits and circle punches, so the edge on the largest circle layer is a bit bigger than the other two circles.  A fun discovery was the "rope", which is actually a piece of the new Very Vanilla Thick Baker's Twine.

As always, your visit and comments are so appreciated!  Do be sure to use the links above to check out all the inspiration. While the Mojo Monday sketch was from last week and therefore the collection is closed, the SCS Color Challenge has no deadline, and we'd love to see what you create with this week's colors.  Have a great week!

Hugs,

Stef

Field of Poppies for Pals Paper Arts

Hello again!  I have a card to share with you today that I made for this week's sketch challenge at Pals Paper Arts.

This great sketch was perfect to showcase one of my favorite pieces of the new Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper stack in the background.  I just love the look of it, like a field of poppies spread before you.  Of course I had to add the requisite butterfly!

In concept this should have been a very easy card to make, but boy did I struggle with what banners to use, whether to use card stock, ribbon or twine for the horizontal piece and how to display a sentiment.  I tried out a lot of different things but in the end I liked the vellum banners best, and used the sentiment from Wetlands in an oval directly over the banners.

Thanks so much for the visit today!  I hope the rest of your weekend goes well.  Prayers and well wishes to those of you in the areas of the US suffering through severe weather.  Please stay safe!

Hugs,

Stef

Vivid Thanks

Hi there and welcome back!

This week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers is bright and beautiful!  Rich Razzleberry, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay are Barbara's choice for this week and I LOVE them together.  "Dessert" is using a punch or die cut.  I chose to use a 2 1/2" circle punch.

Again the wonderful sketch at the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge provided the basis for my card design.

Because I still have Blendability Markers in those colors (Stampin' Up! has discontinued them due to quality issues), I chose the Vivid Vases stamp so I could use the markers.  With the vases as the star of the show, I knew I could keep the rest of the card very clean and simple.

Only the three vases in the middle of the five on the stamp were used, which meant I had to carefully use the edge of the Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad to ink up the vases.  Those three were chosen because the two vases on each end had leaves and green is not part of the color challenge this week.

My Stampamajig was the must have tool to help me center the vases and the sentiment.  The sentiment is part of the wonderful new Cottage Greetings, which uses pretty and whimsical fonts for all its sentiments.

Well, thanks for dropping by!  I'd love to hear from you if you have a moment to leave a comment.  The links above will take you to great inspiration and hopefully you can join in both challenges.  Have a great week!

Hugs,

Stef

Sea Tide Birthday

Hello again!

My husband's birthday is Saturday, and I always like to make him a special card.  Usually they are outdoor scenes, sometimes with animals, sometimes not.  This year I decided to "jump in with both feet" using a marine theme (sorry couldn't help the pun!).  I used this week's sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge for my layout.

Because the scene is so big, the card base of Bermuda Bay card stock measures 6 1/2" x 4 3/4".  I stamped various images from By the Tide and Gorgeous Grunge on the card base with the same color ink  The cross panel is Early Espresso embossed with the Boho Chic embossing folder and tied up with a bit of hemp twine.

The first step was to heat emboss the jelly fish on the watercolor paper panel with Whisper White embossing powder.  Using an Aqua Painter, I then completely covered the watercolor paper with water then dropped 2-3 drops of Soft Sky reinker, spreading it quickly over the entire piece of paper.  After letting that dry, I used a sponge dauber and a piece of card stock with a wavy edge I just hand cut, and lightly applied Bermuda Bay ink to create some movement in the water. The coral was then stamped on the edges.

The really cool sea turtle was stamped on a separate piece of watercolor paper and water colored using Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz and Wild Wasabi ink and the Aqua Painter.  After drying, I cut it out with Paper Snips and adhered it to the card with dimensionals.  Both the turtle and jelly fish are part of the From Land to Sea stamp set, new this year in the just released new Stampin' Up! catalogue.

Thanks so much for taking time to visit!  I'd love to hear from you if you have a moment to leave a comment!  Be back in a day or two with another card to share!

Hugs,

Stef

CC534 Birthday Star

Welcome back!  Tonight the card I'm sharing is for this week's Color Challenge at Splitcoaststampers.  You will definitely want to join in with these beautiful colors!

Love Blackberry Bliss, Wisteria Wonder and Pool Party together!  The "dessert" this week is to add stars and that initially threw me.  I tried different backgrounds, sponging, all sorts of things but nothing worked to my satisfaction.  Then I decided to restart one more time and keep it simple using the Sweet Sunday Sketch from last week.

For the card base I used a piece of the new thick Whisper White card stock.  It is awesome, so much sturdier than the regular 80 pound card stock.  The next layer of Pool Party card stock was run through the Big Shot with the Lucky Stars embossing folder.

Some nice sparkle was added with stars cut out of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper then colored with a Wisteria Wonder Blendability Marker.  The stacked sentiment worked perfectly for this layout.  It's from Circle of Spring, one of the darling new stamp sets available in the new Stampin' Up catalogue.  I added a bit of ribbon and my card was complete.  Phew!

Be sure to use the links above to join in with the SCS Color Challenge and Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge.  Although there is a new sketch this week, Karen leaves the collection permanently open so we can play along anytime.

As always your visit and comments are so appreciated!  Have a great week!

Hugs,

Stef

Definitely Awesome

Hello and welcome back!  I have a fun card to share with you that I put together rather quickly this afternoon.  It uses Definitely Dahlia, a new background stamp now available in the newly released Stampin' Up! catalogue.  Dahlia's are one of my favorite flowers, plus I go by dahlia19 on Splitcoaststampers, so what was a girl to do but buy this stamp, right?

You can see how large the image is.  After stamping it in Daffodil Delight, I trimmed it down, then added the fabulous sentiment from Happy Birthday, Everyone.  I actually left the interior blank so I could later choose to add either a congratulations or happy birthday, depending on need.

I am not overly fond of yellow, but it's been a bright, sunny, HOT day here and I liked this fresh color combination, adding the turquoise, black and white.

Thanks for taking a look!  I'd love to hear from you if you have a moment to leave a comment.  I'll be back with my Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge card tomorrow night, so be sure to swing by and take a look!

Hugs,

Stef

Loving Sympathy for Mojo Monday #400

Today I am sharing a card I made for Mojo Monday, celebrating it's 400th sketch.  Congratulations, Julee and the fabulous design team!  And thanks for the tremendous sketches that each week provide such great inspiration!  Here's the fabulous sketch for this week:

While I wanted to use a more celebratory theme, unfortunately I had need of a sympathy card and this sketch really worked for the idea I had in mind.

The En Francais background stamp was inked up with Crumb Cake ink, stamped off lightly then stamped on the Very Vanilla panel, which was then over stamped with a flourish.  Watercolor paper was used for the flowers, which were stamped in Timber Brown Stazon then colored with Pink Pirouette and Blushing Bride ink and an Aqua Painter.  A new Stampin' Up! In Color, Delightful Dijon, was applied to the stamens.

The doily was trimmed and adhered to the panel, then embosslet cut leaves and hand snipped flowers were layered on top, with Crumb Cake twine wrapped around after everything was distressed and sponged with Crumb Cake ink.

Julee is looking for a two new design team members, so I decided to throw my hat in the ring.  It's quite the long shot but my philosophy is nothing ventured, nothing gained, so I'm going for it!  Wish me luck!

As always, your visit and comments are so very appreciated.  Be sure to use the link to join in the fun and enjoy the amazing inspiration!

Hugs,

Stef
